Welcome Message from Director
Prof. Moses Muhumuza.
A Researcher, Environmentalist and Life skills Educator.
Welcome message
I would like to sincerely welcome you to the Universal Institute of Research and Innovations (UNIRI). While on this page you will come to know what we stand for as an institute and what we do offer to the communities that we serve. Well aware of the fact that the majority of the youths in Uganda are either unemployed or are experiencing working poverty, the Universal Institute of Research and Innovations, therefore, was founded in 2018 to address the skills and knowledge gaps that are largely responsible for the unemployment problem in Uganda. We are addressing this problem among others through our short, intensive, practical and research-driven training courses. The ultimate aim of the institute is to produce a formidable human resource that is able to effectively and confidently not only bid for the available employment opportunities but be in a position to create jobs for themselves and for others.
The unemployment problem in Uganda has been aggravated by our education system which has not progressed to reflect the rapid socio-economic, political and cultural changes of our times. This has resulted in a generation of people that to a large extent lack the skills and knowledge to cope with the demands of employers, and left a large number of graduates who are jobless, frustrated, and largely unproductive. Through our various partnerships, we have received support to train and equip the youths with employable skills. Commendable is the support from Welthungerhilfe channeled through Joint Effort to Support the Environment (JESE), with this support and partnership we have embarked on green skilling particularly Solar Installation and repair where over 170 students have benefited. There are testimonies that most of these students are already absorbed in gainful employment. In an effort to strengthen the sustainable environment the institute puts emphasis on environmental management, sustainable urban planning, sustainable energy technologies, organic agriculture, water resources management, waste management, nature conservation, technology and innovation.
The institute is registered by Uganda Registration Services Bureau, and certified by the Uganda Directorate of Industrial Training and offers postgraduate certificates and Diplomas in affiliation with other academic institutions. It is primarily a research and training institute focusing on environmental issues. It falls in the category of other degree-awarding institutions as categorized by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education. It has a publishing department that works directly with the Centre for Action and Applied Research for Development (CAARD) which is registered with Uganda Libraries and has an International standard Book Number (ISBN) bar code for its publications.
I welcome you once again and request you to supplement our efforts by partnering with us in any of our three pillars i.e training, research and community engagement. As we partner, we emphasize and call for a symbiotic relationship with you. For more information and clarification, don’t hesitate to reach me through the down listed address and contacts.
